The AGM/ Dinner of Saturday June 22nd 1940 was held at the
Stirling Social Rooms, Cnr. Hay/Milligan Streets, Dr.Gibson was
appointed a patron, in lieu of Mr.Holt.
The Wattle Tea Rooms was the venue of the AGM/Dinner of December 22nd
1941
The President being on active duty with the RAAF, the chair on these
occasions was taken by the Vice President George Moss.
Meetings were held in the Treasury Buildings.
It was not until October 8th 1945 that the Institute again met during
peacetime.
It was decided that the present Council continue, and that the meeting
be adjourned for 3 months, Elections to be held in January 1946.
By that time, Callsigns were reissued, and stations allowed back on the
air.

*** Bob ELMS VK6BE resigned as President in December 1970 - his place

taken by Graham BYASS VK6BY until the
next AGM in April 1971.
Christine VK6ZLZ was the first YL
President of the Division.
- She was also the first President holding other than a Full Call
and also the first holder of
a "Limited" licencee to hold the position.
The only President to not hold a Transmitters Licence was Mr.B.M
HOLT, who
was President of the Division for 8 years (from 1921 - 1929) including
being
Chairman at the 2nd Annual Convention of the Wireless Institute, held
in
Perth on August 7th/8th, 1925. He was thus the ONLY
non-experimenter to
preside over a Wireless Institute Convention. He was also the
only Western
Australian
(until Neil Penfold VK6NE in 1994)
to be part of the Executive.
He was the first
Federal Councillor (1925-26)
for Western Australia.
his record term as President of the Division has only been equalled so
far
by Bruce Hedland-Thomas, VK6OO , both having taken the
Presidential
Chair for 8 successive years.
For a short time (August 1970 - March 1971, meetings were held at
SURF HOUSE, Colin St, West Perth,
although no AGM was held there.

One time observer at the Watheroo Observatory of the
Carnegie Institution of Washington. There, carried out
experiments with low-powered radio equipment & maintained a service
route form the Observatory to headquarters in Washington. From there
went to London & two years later obtained Doctorate for Radio
Investigations of the Ionosphere. Then in Charge of the British Polar
Year Expedition work in Norway. Returned to Australia and carried out
investigations for the Australian Radio Research Board until joining
A.W.A. in 1934. Has published a number of papers on various aspects of
radio research. Born 02.06.1906.
COX Harold Edward. A.W.A.representative, Brisbane. Has had 26
years uninterrupted wireless, joined English Marconi Co. 1911. Came to
Australia 1914.Served as W/T operator
aboard Australian Troopship during the Great War. Drafted into R.A.N.
Coastal Wireless Service, later AWA Coastal Radio. Entered the
Broadcasting Dept. of AWA 1931. With 3BO Bendigo from its inception
until appointed Manager, 4TO Townsville.

THOSE CALL SIGNALS IN CODE
No doubt there are many amateurs with valve sets who hear voice &
music, but do not know where they come from, because the call signs
given are not letters, but words.
For example, supposing the station used the expression "3 Cork Beer
here" , few listeners would, unless they knew the following code,
interpret it as 3CB.
A large number of letters in the
alphabet sound very much alike over the telephone for
example
P, B, C,D,E, G & T.
Although "P for Percy" or "C for Charlie" is a good
way to distinguish them, a quicker method is to alter the sound of the
individual letters, making no two rhyme.
