User Audio Levels

Home

Making sure your audio level on your FM transceiver is correct is not as easy as other modes such as SSB, where you have a visual indication, such as a meter or bar graph. The louder or softer you speak, is displayed on the radio. FM does not have such a display.

Older rigs usually have a mic gain and a deviation setting. It is not a good idea to change the deviation setting, but rather the mic gain, if you are receiving reports of high or low audio.

Modern rigs sometimes have some mic gain control through the menu system and if you get low or high reports of your audio this is worth a look.

The examples below are typical of the variation with audio levels on FM transmissions.
