John (Jack) Harold McGhie

WWII newspaper photograph.

John Harold McGhie joined the Army at Black Boy Hill on the 11th of August 1916 at age 19 on his enlistment papers, but he was actually 18. His employment before entering the army was Teamster. His service number was 2605 and was in the 43rd Battalion 5th Reinforcement, Private.

He embarked from Fremantle aboard the Argyllshire on the 9th of November 1916 and disembarked at Devonport England on the 10th of January 1917.

It was not unusual for the McGhie boys to have a dislike of authority, as shown below, from John's service records while on board the Argyllshire heading for England.
