Four McGhie brothers at war.

Arnold joined the army on the 9th of October 1916 and gave his age as 18 years and two months. He was born on the 25th of August 1900. So his actual age on enlistment was 16 years and 2 months. Both his parents signatures were on the enlistment document, as you needed permission from your parents to sign up if you were under 21. Arnold sign up in Fremantle,  service number  3416, private, 9/51st Battalion. His previous employment, at age 16, was given as seaman.
